Joint Office of Strategic Planning
The Joint Office of Strategic Planning (JOSP) functions as an internal consulting group to support and align the strategic planning of Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM), its faculty practice plan (FPP), Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital (BJWCH) . In addition, JOSP participates in efforts to expand the integration of services across the health system.
JOSP provides strategic advisory services including (but not limited to) the following:
- Business development
- Service expansion
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Design and communication of business and strategic plans
- Financial proformas
- Identification of metrics for success
- Identification of implementation steps
- Leadership meetings facilitation
- Resource alignment/coordination
Data analysis and interpretation includes qualitative and quantitative data, competitor and market share analysis and benchmarking with peer institutions. The Department’s aim is to work with leadership to advance the mission and goals of key stakeholders. JOSP also proactively plans, facilitates and directs overall research, academic and clinical strategic planning efforts while serving as trusted advisors to all.
The department works closely with BJH/SLCH finance and business development as well as WUSM business manager and finance teams while also collaborating with the BJC corporate strategic planning group.
Clinical planning is coordinated to articulate and achieve a shared vision and goals for our joint clinical practices. JOSP is responsible for building collaborative relationships and serving as strategic thought partners to key leaders across the health system.
JOSP is responsible for the planning and execution of multiple business and strategic planning projects. Planning initiatives vary in size and complexity; some are part of the ongoing management of the institutions and are renewed on a regular schedule; others are more exploratory in nature, designed to evaluate new ideas and identify growth opportunities.
JOSP team members come from a variety of backgrounds including clinical care, business, research, health administration, public health, finance, quality and managed care. Each has graduate training and/or extensive experience in these disciplines.
