Faculty Recognition

Our faculty are the foundation of excellence upon which Washington University School of Medicine thrives and progress in human health is built.

The School of Medicine has more than 2,900 full-time faculty members. Our faculty are more than health care providers and scientists; they are entrepreneurs and visionaries, community leaders and government advisors, mentors and collaborators.

Outstanding achievements of our current faculty include:

  • 15 fellows of the prestigious National Academy of Sciences
  • 30 elected to National Academy of Medicine
  • 116 individual and/or institutional career development awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • 15 investigators with NIH MERIT status, a special recognition that provides long-term, uninterrupted financial funding
  • 77 career development awards from non-federal agencies

In addition, 19 Nobel laureates have been associated with the School of Medicine.
