Joint Office of Strategic Planning

Joint Office of Strategic Planning

The Joint Office of Strategic Planning (JOSP) is an internal resource of the School of Medicine and our partner hospitals – Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital – supporting strategic planning initiatives at all levels of the organizations.

The office provides support to leadership in the development and expansion of academic and clinical programs. Clinical planning is coordinated with Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s hospitals in order to articulate and achieve a shared vision and goals for our joint clinical practice. Planning for research and academic endeavors may involve single or multiple departments of the school, and may be coordinated with colleagues throughout the university and community.

Planning is accomplished through analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data, facilitation of goal and strategy development sessions with school and hospital leadership, and development of written strategic plans, financial pro forma and implementation steps.

Planning initiatives vary in their size and complexity; some are part of the ongoing management of the institutions and are renewed on a regular schedule. Others are more exploratory in nature, designed to evaluate new ideas and opportunities.

JOSP team members come from a variety of backgrounds including clinical care, business, research, health administration, public health, finance, quality and managed care. Each has graduate training and/or extensive experience in these disciplines.
