Medical students honor faculty, residents
Honorees given Distinguished Service Teaching Awards
Tim ParkerStudents at Washington University School of Medicine expressed their appreciation for dedication, patience and skill in training aspiring physicians when they honored faculty and residents with the Distinguished Service Teaching Awards for the 2016-17 academic year.
Every year since 1991, students completing their first, second and third year of studies select the course masters, lecturers, clerkship directors, attendings and residents who have made significant contributions to their education. This year’s honors were awarded Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Medical Campus.
Among those honored was Anne Glowinski, MD, a professor of psychiatry, associate director of the William Greenleaf Elliot Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and director of the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship. Glowinski was the students’ nominee for the national Humanism in Medicine Award, which is presented annually by the Association of the American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The award recognizes medical school faculty physicians who exemplify the qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor in the teaching and advising of medical students.
In comments at the ceremony delivered by medical student Lily Chen, Glowinski was described as “the consummate mentor, helping students discover their own solutions rather than being directive.”
Chen added that Glowinski’s “boundless love flows beyond the walls of this campus. Both her office and her home have an open-door policy.”
