Dy named Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award winner

Recognizes outstanding clinical research related to musculoskeletal disease

February 13, 2023

Christopher J. Dy, MD, an associate professor of orthopedic surgery, has been announced as the recipient of the 2023 Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award for his research on how brachial plexus injuries affect patients’ quality of life.

The award is presented annually by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons to recognize impactful investigators under age 40.

Dy’s work indicates that many studies have not accounted for the emotional, psychological and pain-related aspects of recovery from brachial plexus surgery. His research also has identified a disconnect between surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that connect the spinal cord to the shoulder, arm and hand to control movement and sensation. Dy’s team developed a guide to coach patients through the treatment and recovery process following a brachial plexus injury.
