Evidence-based public health focus of annual conference on Sept. 27

Researchers will gather Wednesday, Sept. 27, to discuss evidence-based public health at the 10th annual conference of the Institute for Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis. The conference will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Medical Campus.

Internationally respected epidemiologist Ross Brownson, PhD, the Bernard Becker Professor at the Brown School and the School of Medicine, will give the keynote address, titled “Why Science Matters: The Case for Evidence-based Public Health.”

On a panel after the keynote, experts will discuss topics ranging from barriers to policy in the legislature, to the important role academia plays in policymaking.

Attendees also are invited to attend the installation ceremony of William G. Powderly, MD, as the Larry J. Shapiro Director of the Institute for Public Health, and a reception following the conference. Powderly is the J. William Campbell Professor of Medicine and co-director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the School of Medicine.

The conference is free and open to the public, but participants are asked to preregister.
